We attend the First Conference of the Registered Museums

From 31 May to 1 June, at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Cracow, there are hosted representatives of an elite group of the institutions entered on the State Register of Museum (PRM). The CMJW, owing to meet all the necessary statutory requirements in this respect, as a registered museum, has also received an invitation. The Director of our institution, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska has gone to Cracow.

It is the first of this event of kind, organised as a conference by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage together with the National Institute for Museums and Public Collections (NIMOZ) with the aim of creating a forum for the registered museums, where will be possible to share experiences and discuss problems related to day-to-day activities. In addition to strengthening cooperation and cordial relations among the museum fraternity, the conference should bring long term effects in the form of raising the standards of museum management what will allow – as the NIMOZ proclaims – “to build a strong and recognisable PRM brand”.

The conference was opened with a session with the participation of Katarzyna Nowak, director of the host museum, Dr. Paulina Florianowicz, director of the National Institute for Museums and Public Collections, and Paweł Jaskanis, director of The Museum of King John III's Palace at Wilanów and the head of the Commission of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for PRM. A letter from Prof. Piotr Gliński, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage, was also read out. Among many speeches – due to close proximity of our subject – stood out the paper by representatives of the Museum and Memorial Site in Sobibor. Tomasz Oleksy-Zborowski and Anna Surdacka shared their knowledge of the process of establishing their museum institution.

The engaging part of the conference was accompanied by an important event of a prestigious nature for the community: the gala of the 43rd Sybilla 2022 Competition for the Museum Event of the Year. It took place at Wawel Royal Castle, which, together with the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Cracow, was a partner of the Conference.
