Response of a poet – Bell of silence by Edmund Borzemski

The opening of the exhibition Place with a scar, during the commemoration of the liberation of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, held on Thursday, March 17, (see the report on it here) has become an inspiration for Edmund Borzemski.

Edmund Borzemski, a historian and poet, has been associated with our Museum, where he used to worked, for years. He made his debuted as a poet in 1987. His poetic output might be found in numerous journals, collective publications and his own books of poems. He is one of those who initiated still ongoing the Recitation Competition of POW Poetry "Let's remember” wherein he tirelessly participates as a juror. He a member of various organisations, poet laureate of many prizes and, above all, the author of poems devoted to the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. Visiting our exposition before the official opening he wrote his another literary composition entitled Dzwon ciszy [Bell of silence]

The exposition is a result of the hard work of a team of the Museum workers, artists and experts from different fields whose aim was creation of an emotionally engaging piece of art. Its phenomenon, expressed in the form and idea, lies in the fusion of several worlds: the authenticity of the place, art and nature. A series of texts and films devoted to the exhibition can be found on the Museum's Facebook page, hashtag #MiejscezBlizna, to what to do we invite you.

And now, in Edmund Borzemski’s words, the Opole poet, you are invited to take a tour:

Bell of silence

„Place with a scar” *
Space wrapped up in a circle
of barbed wire
Remnants of the huts
Exclamation mark of time and history
They remind to the generations
What fate was prepared by man for man.
It is here where the Bell of silence still wakes up
Consciences which are asleep.
Busts of the Łambinowice camp prisoners
Who for free thoughts
Frozen in words
Chained up in stones
Devoted their lives
Stand on guard of the memory
The voice of silence still calls up
Those who are dead and alive.
To stand together
To the unforgettable roll call

Edmund Borzemski
