Łambinowice necropolis – care to remember

On All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day we commemorated those who have departed. We remember our family members, friends, but also those who were unknown to us in person. It should not be surprising then, that numerous candles are lit each year on the graves and monuments at the Old Prisoners-of-War Cemetery in Łambinowice. However, remembrance of the buried there soldiers and civilians is, above all, the work of individuals and institutions, including our Museum, who do their best to preserve this military necropolis for centuries to come. The films, to which we invite you to watch, are just about this.

The first film, to be published yet, is about conservation and restoration works commissioned by Łambinowice Commune, which obtained funds for this purpose from the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport (20 000 PLN) and the Opole Province Governor (5 000 PLN).

We have already presented the second film, which we would like to remind you today. It is a documentary telling the story of the Old Prisoner-of-War Cemetery in Łambinowice in the context of one of the largest groups of soldiers who died in the course World War I – Romanian POWs. The film reports on the course of the 2020 conservation work conducted on their graves. The cost of this largest conservation project, initiated by the Museum and carried out in cooperation with Łambinowice Commune, was over was over 145,000 €, and was covered by the Romania Ministry of National Defence.
