Jerzy Esden Tempski has died

On Sunday, 19 September, died Jerzy Esden Tempski, codename Jęderek, a Warsaw insurgent, POW of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf and other camps. The Museum and the Site National Remembrance in Łambinowiece were regulary visited by him. He participated in our ceremonies, met with children and young people. He was a Witness to History, about which he willingly and wisely spoke.

Jerzy Esden Tempski was born on 8 December 1926 in Toruń. He settled in Warsaw during the Second World War. He fought in the uprising in the 1st company "Ambrosia" of the "Zaremba-Piorun" battalion. After the cessation of fights, through the transit camp in Ożarów, he was sent to Lamsdorf (prisoner-of-war no. 103912). Next he was transferred to Stalag VII A Moosburg and sent to work in a POW working unit in Munich. After regaining freedom, he joined the 2nd Polish Corps in Italy where he was assigned to the Warsaw Armoured Division. He returned to Poland in 1947.

Jerzy Esden Tempski, while visiting the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, willingly shared his insurgent and prisoner-of-war recollections, and listened to us with attention. Last year, he appeared in a documentary film Lamsdorf Station. The Warsaw insurgents in captivity.

He was a great friend of the Museum. For the first time he will not be with us on 6 October, during the approaching anniversary of the arrival of the first transport of Warsaw insurgents to Stalag 344 Lamsdorf. Let us listen to him once again now...
