Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Łambinowice seat of the Museum, was hosted a meeting during which a letter of intent defining the functioning of the newly established Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice was signed.

The attendees of the meeting were welcomed by the Museum director, dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who reminded about the hitherto course of cooperation, and introduced the idea behind the establishment of the Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. The Council, as the letter of intent stipulates, conducts, among other things, close cooperation in the domain of protection of cultural heritage and monuments, implements various projects serving this purpose, supports local and community initiatives and engages others in cooperation. The document, alongside the Museum Director, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, is signed by: Tomasz Karpiński, Mayor of the Łambinowice Commune; Adam Siwek, Director of the Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN); Wiesław Skrzypek, Forest Inspector of the Tułowice Forest Inspectorate; Joanna Banik, a representative of the Opole Branch of the National Heritage Institute; Elżbieta Molak, Opole Province Conservator of Monuments; Andrzej Kruczkiewicz, Starost of Nysa; and Bogusław Janik, the owner of the plot of land formerly occupied by Stalag VIII B (344) Lamsdorf.

The meeting was also the opportunity to present by Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska a report on the works conducted at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowicev since 2019, when the last of such meeting took place, and a presentation by Dr. Dawid Kobiałka (online) of the assumptions of the research project Science for Society, Society for Science at the Site National Remembrance in Łambinowice. The discussion was followed by a visit to the war cemeteries and the post-camp areas in order to assess the current state of preservation, as well as to determine further work with an indication of its sequence until 2027.
