Commemorations of the National Day of Remembrance of the "Cursed Soldiers"

Events in commemoration of the soldiers of the Polish post-war independence and anti-communist underground are already a permanent point on the calendar of national events. Today, on 1 March, they were also held in Opole. At the invitation of the Governor of Opole Province Sławomir Kłosowski, the Museum director, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, attended one of them.

The commemoration commenced with a Holy Mass at the Black Friars Church. It main part was held in front of the Monument to the Soldiers of the Independence Underground in Plac Wolności (Independence Square), where, after delivered speeches, the roll call of remembrance and gun salute proceeded, followed by the laying of flowers and lighting candles. In the evening, the performance of Hiob'51 was staged at the Wanda Pawlik Culture Centre house in Nysa.

As usually, the Museum recalls the memory of Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki. His wartime biography also includes spells of internment in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf and Oflag VII A Murnau. We invite you to the Museum's YouTube channel to listen to a lecture on this topic. Teachers, on the other hand, are welcome to take advantage of the museum lesson Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki given on Microsoft Teams, for which booking can be made by phone: tel. 77 43 43 475 (Monday-Friday, 9.00 a.m.-3.00 p.m.), or via email to m.sobczak@cmjw.pl
