World Poetry Day

World Poetry Day, celebrated every year on March 21, is an excellent opportunity to recall the upcoming XXX edition of the POWs Poetry Recitation Competition "Let's not lose our memory", and an occasion to announce a new publication of the CMJW.

The final of the competition, addressed to young people from the Opole Voivodeship, is scheduled for 14 April 2023. This special anniversary edition will be accompanied by the publication of a collection of poems containing works by poets, many of whom have been associated with the Museum for years, such as: Edmund Borzemski, Harry Duda, Adriana Jarosz, Elżbieta Lisak-Duda, Ewa Maj-Szczygielska or Piotr Żarczyński. This will be the third anthology of poetry from our Museum, following "Drut opasał w krąg. An Anthology of Prisoner-of-War Poetry from 1939-1945' (1984) and 'Against Violence' (2001).

So, once again, we would like to remind you that the competition, organised by the Museum and the Association of Friends of the CMJW, is still open for entries. The deadline is 5 April 2023. Completed participant cards should be addressed to: the Department of Education and Exhibitions, Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, 4 Muzealna St., 48-316 Łambinowice or by e-mail to: with the note: "Recitation Contest". The persons responsible for the organisation of the competition are Dr. Anna Wickiewicz and Dominik Hadas.

Necessary documents, i.e.: competition rules, a participant's card and the list of the proposed poetic works can be found here.
