We remember!

Throughout the whole day, in various places in Warsaw, and other Polish towns, are held commemorations of the 77the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Also, in Łambinowice we have marked the memory of the participants of those fights. In front of the Monument to Warsaw Insurgents - Prisoners of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf at the symbolic ,,W” hour, the employees of the Museum, together with the representatives the authorities of the Łambinowice and Niemodlin communities, and the residents of the village, lit candles and laid flowers.

The Warsaw Uprising, which broke out on 1 August of 1944, was one of the most important, and as the same time dramatic, events written in the history pages of the city. Planned for a few days, it lasted over two months. After the fall of it, to the German captivity were taken about 16-17 thousands of soldiers, among whom, the first days of October 1944, about 6 thousands got to Stalag 344 Lamsdorf. Among them were officers, non-commission officers and privates alike, men, but also women and children – the youngest defenders of the capital. Their presents in this place have left a permanent mark, as evidenced by numerous tangible and intangible testimonies, such as accounts collected on the website of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War (https://www.cmjw.pl/swiadkowie-historii/6-months,arch.html), artefacts donated to the Museum's collections (https://www.cmjw.pl/zbiory/nasze-skarby/) or, finally, academic studies based on those  testimonies. During these August days, you are invited to reach for the publications prepared by the Museum employees: Przystanek Lamsdorf. Powstańcy warszawscy w obozie jenieckim 344 Lamsdorf [Lamsdorf Station. The Warsaw Insurgents in 344 Lamsdorf Prisoner-of-War Camp] by Piotr Stanek and Kobiety – powstańcy warszawscy w niewoli niemieckiej (1944–-1945) [Female Insurgents of the Warsaw Uprising in German Captivity (1944-1945)] by Małgorzata Klasicka. They are available at both the Museum seats and in our online shop (https://www.sklep.cmjw.pl).
