Łambinowice Museum Yearbook. You are welcome to read the 44th volume!

The year 2021, when came our another volume of the Museum's scientific periodical, saw the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, and the European men's football championship tournament. Those events influenced the editorial board of the "Łambinowice Museum Yearbook" to chose sport as the central theme of the 44th volume.

The authors of the papers published in the latest volume, available in paper and electronic format, have focused on sports life in prisoners-of-war camps during the Second World War. An interesting introduction to the publication is an interesting article by Dr. Anna Czerner who deliberates on what gave prisoners-of-war the will and strength to play sports. On the other hand, Prof. Anna Matuchniak-Mystkowska brings attention to the sphere of the intermingling sport with other areas of POW life – namely art. Dr. Jan Daniluk attempts to formulate a synthetic picture of the sport activity of Western POWs. As for other authors, their researches focused on: the POW press – Kamil Weber, the chronicle of the Military Sports Club "Lwów" in Oflag II C Woldenberg – Maria Buła, and the activity of gymnasts in Oflag VI B Dössel – Monika Sobczak. The fate of Polish sportsmen in Wehrmacht and NKVD camps was analysed by Prof. Renata Urban and Prof. Kacper Ciesielski.

The editors of the publication are Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska and Dr. Kamil Weber. The editorial review has been handled by Dr. Ryszard Wryk, a historian from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, who does, among other things, research work on the history of Polish sport during World War II.
