History workshops

Classes of this type are organized along exhibitions, in the archive and the library, in war cemeteries and in the area of the former camps. They allow undertaking creative work and obtaining maximal activation on the part of students through experiencing and feeling. Participants obtain new information, analyze it and make use of it to solve situational problems. Thanks to the fact that the workshops require children and youth to make a considerable intellectual effort and to partake in group work, they yield concrete results and give genuine satisfaction. They develop analytical-historical thinking, the skill of formulating theses, drawing conclusions and generalizing; they also stimulate the participants’ emotional sphere. Last but not least, they facilitate shaping the system of moral values, the foundation of which rests on respecting human rights.

Art workshops

The art workshops which are organized in the Museum include, e.g., art and drama classes. They prove most attractive forms of educational work in the Site of Remembrance. They should be preceded by other activities which would allow the participants to gather impressions, like historical workshops during exhibitions, lessons in the archive or in war cemeteries and in the area of the former camps or meetings with witnesses to the relevant events. The direct goal behind conducting the art workshops is making the participants transfer their feelings and considerations, giving the name to and expressing their thoughts by means of various artistic and usable materials, as well as through messages communicated off the stage. Creative expression permits, on the one hand, to order and consolidate the gained knowledge and information; on the other one – to formulate evaluations. Such classes make it easier to acquire historical, cultural and social knowledge, to get acquainted and understand universal values, and thus – to shape reliable and mature civic attitudes.
