Webinar „Museum as a social actor”

On 18 May at 6 p.m., the Scientific Circle of Interdisciplinary Research of the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies of the University of Wroclaw is organizing, with our participation, an interesting webinar entitled "The Museum as a social actor".

Why do want to draw your attention to this very issue? Well, museums ceased to be only ,,temples” of art and intellectual contemplation long time ago, and have become, in accordance with the principles of the new museology, fully-fledged participants of the public discourse – museum-forums co-created by the public. The tasks of protecting and providing access to collections still remain an important distinctive feature of this category of cultural institutions, but alongside with them, educational activities of museums and their responsibility for the social environment, have developed enormously.

The aim of our meeting is show good practises in the field of education and social engagement of contemporary museums, including those which are on tourist routes of Europe, as well these which geographically are much closer to us. In the context of these examples, we will put some light on ongoing changes in the strategy and activity of the so-called ,,difficult” museum – an institution with the martyrdom profile which popularization and socially directed possibilities seems (but are they?) to be limited. How does the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War  find the difficult historical matter it deals with on a daily basis? What makes it different from other museums-sites of remembrance? What is the sense of its existence anyway? We will look for answers to these and other questions together with Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska and Dr. Anna Czerner.

You are welcome very much to attend the meeting at 6 p.m., 18 May. For more information and how to sign up go to: https://www.facebook.com/events/1147350579114782/
