We take part in the International Day for Monuments and Sites

At the invitation of the Conservator of Monuments of Opole Province, Prof. Monika Ożóg, and the Mayor of the Pokój Community, Barbara Zając, the Director of the Museum, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, attended a celebration in Pokój.

The celebration of the International Day for Monuments and Sites took place on 26 April this year, and was organised on the premises of a recently renovated orangery, reconstructed as part of the extensive revitalisation of the historic park in Pokój - one of the largest in the Opole Province. Alongside the orangery, there have been also reconstructed the French and partly English gardens and the park's monuments, with the Sleeping Lion built in 1863 as the main attraction. In addition, there have been constructed an amphitheatre and facilities for nature and environmental education. The revitalisation, which covered 20 hectares, took six years, and was implemented as part of as many as 11 projects totalling PLN 34 million.

The effects of this impressive undertaking were admired by the attendees of the ceremony during a didactic walk accompanied by Hubert Kołodziej, President of the 'Pokój' Association. In addition, Joanna Ptaszek-Rekus, secretary of the Pokój Community, presented the community's activities in building up local tourism potential. The meeting was also an opportunity to hand out 'For the care of monuments' badges and to share interesting experiences with each other.
