We said farewell to Tadesz Horoszkiwicz
Today, at the Cemetery in Opole-Półwieś, in the Avenue of the Distinguished, was interred Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz. He died on December 7, aged 86. Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz was not only a well-known journalist but also a man involved in preserving the memory of Polish prisoners-of-war.
Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz was an authority in journalism and an unquestionable doyen of the Opole media. He worked in the media since 1962, among others in Radio Opole and TVP3 Opole. He co-founded of the regional branch of the television, in where he performed various roles as a journalist, presenter, cameraman and, of course, its long-time manager.
Mr. Tadeusz was a son of Roman Horoszkiewicz (1892-1962), a soldier of a cavalry unit of The First Cadre Company commanded by Józef Piłsudski during First World War. He also participated in the Polish-Soviet War and in one of the Silesian Uprisings. Besides, he was a solider of the Polish Army in 1939, prisoner-of-war, among others, in Oflag II B Gross Born. Roman Horoszkewicz’s contribution to Opole was acknowledged by naming one of city streets after him.
Tadeusz Horoszkiewicz has collaborated with the Museum. He made film documentaries on the POW subject and about our activities. He donated his father's valuable POW memorabilia to us: correspondence, documents, and the manuscript of his work entitled "Recollections of Young Years”, and, in 2003, the Museum, with his great commitment, published Roman Horoszkiewicz - życie i dzieło [Roman Horoszkiewicz - life and work] by Roman Kwaśniewski in the “Fakty. Dokumenty. Sylwetki" series.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of this remarkable man.
