
We participated at a conference on tourism in the region
A conference, entitled ‘Strategic directions for development of tourism in the Opole Voivodeship’, was held at the castle in Niemodlin on 26 May. This was part of nationwide consultations of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism whiting the framework of the developing a new strategy to fully present the richness and tourist attractions of all the Polish voivodeships.
Our Museum at the meeting in Niemodlin was represented by Dr. Anna Wickiewicz, head of the Department of Education and Exhibitions. A guest at the conference was, among others, the Secretary at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Piotr Borys, who emphasised that Poland is a safe and increasingly attractive country for domestic and foreign tourists, and thanks to the activities of the Ministry it has a chance to become a leader in tourism in Central and Eastern Europe. In this context, there is even talk of raising GDP from tourism from 5% to 9.5%, which will bring our country closer to the EU average.
The Opole Region itself, described at the conference as a compact region with great potential, was talked about by the Marshal of the voivodeship, Szymon Ogłaza, who drew attention to the region's unique tourist attractions: a network of castles and palaces, oenotourism with dynamically developing vineyards, and horse-riding. He also emphasised the fruitful cooperation with the Opole Regional Tourist Organisation, which director, Piotr Mielec, added that all strategic documents and tourism researches will help to develop the Opole Voivodeship's offer. On the other hand, Małgorzata Wilk-Grzywna, Vice President of the Polish Tourist Organisation, pointed out that the Opole Region stands out from other regions due to its well-prepared strategic document until 2030, including a strongly developed tourism problem.
The conference was one of sixteen consultation meetings as part of the work on the ‘Tourism Development Strategy for Poland until 2030, with an outlook until 2036’. Its aim is to develop a document that will take into account real needs of the regions, while at the same time implementing national tourism policy objectives. The meeting was concluded with the award ceremony of the ‘Lew Opolskiej Turystyki’ competition.
