Valentine's Day is around - the Museum's publications
History is not only about tragic events and personal tragedies. Despite wars, people invariably sought peace, kindness, friendship and even love. This was not easy, but the fate of many prisoners-of-war shows that even despite the isolation and restrictions of the camp, family and love relationships managed to keep going - albeit from a distance. The range of museum publications and souvenirs takes this fact into account.
For history lovers who are looking for somewhat lighter souvenirs and publications, we have prepared a well-crafted catalogue accompanying the exhibition ‘I love You, See You...’, rich in photographs and illustrations. It brings to us the individual stories of couples separated by captivity, and also presents the historical and social context of various romantic relationships which developed under the seemingly unfavourable conditions of wartime separation. An anthology of letters exchanged by one such couple - personal and affectionate by nature - entitled ‘Captivity and Hope. The wartime correspondence of Andrzej and Krystyna Mystkowski’, is also worth reading.
In the museum shop, you can also buy beautifully drawn postcards and colouring books by Ewelina Kędzia, which will also appeal to children's tastes, inspired by the life and literary work of Barbara Lewandowska, a prisoner-of-war after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising and a 15-year-old girl at the time. They carry a positive and timeless message and are, in spite of the war, a voice of hope and faith in humanity.
Don't miss out on this very special opportunity!
