The Museum at Science Picnic

As part of the Opole Science Festival, our Museum participated in an interesting event aimed to popularise knowledge. The Science Picnic on Saturday 27 May was attended by many inhabitants of the Province, who could experience, at first hand, what representatives of various scientific and research disciplines - not only those strictly academic - do in practice.

Alongside numerous faculties and institutes of the Opole University, which was the main organiser, the picnic hosted the stands, among others: the Opole University of Technology, Museum of the Opole Village, National Bank of Poland, Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Opole, Statistical Office and even the Border Guard. The event provided also an opportunity to look up in the sky in a portable planetarium, listen to music or watch dance shows. A separate exhibition area was created for enthusiasts of historical re-enactments.

Despite so many cumulated attractions for kids and adults alike at Opole’s Copernicus Square, out presents at the Picnic did not go unnoticed. Dr. Piotr Stanek and Dr. Kamil Weber, who represent the Museum, could not complain to be idled – many visitors eagerly took part in the prize quiz "Facts about the Rittmeister", often demonstrating surprisingly extensive knowledge about Witold Pilecki. The answers to the most difficult questions were rewarded with the latest publication by Dr. Piotr Stanek "Witold Pilecki. Prisoner-of -War No. 101892". Those who were not lucky enough to take part in the quiz could purchase the book at our stand, and in fact quite a few guests took advantage of this opportunity, at the same time gaining a commemorative inscription from the author.

We would like to thank everyone we met at the Science Picnic, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
