The last purchase of prisoners-of-war memorabilia in 2020

Thanks to a special-purpose subsidy from budget of the Self-Government of the Opole Voivodeship, in December this year, the purchase of a rich collection of prisoner-of-war memorabilia was finalized.

The collection contains 40 identity tags, the so-called dog tags, which were issued to the prisoners-of-war in oflags and stalgas, 163 POW post cards (Kriegsgefangenenpost), and 57photographs. Besides that, there are objects of artistic value, made in the camps like a hand-painted gorget from 1941 with a religious motif on, a large wooden crucifix, an engraving by Zygumnt Pazda from Oflag II C Woldenberg, a pencil-made caricature depicting a prisoner-of-war from Stalag III A Luckenwalde. Also, one can find interesting, a blank, embellished, notebook for memorial entries made for Lieutenant Klincewicz (Oflag A Itzehoe) as well as drawings, painting, photographs, identity cards, and correspondence from the time of captivity of Second Lieutenant  Mieczysław Klauziński. 

The total amount of the purchase was 11,300 PLN. Currently, the all objects of the collection are being inventoried.
