The first debate of the series ,,Museums of tomorrow” is behind us now

The premiere meeting of the series of debates ,,Museums of tomorrow” was held on Monday evening (20 September) via Facebook and was opened to all. In the very interesting discussion Can a museum not be involved? The social responsibility of museums participated museum professionals and representatives of scientific circles and opinion formers.

In the first place, representatives of the organizers addressed to the several dozen people watching the live debate. Dr. Michał Niezabitowski, President of the Main Board of the Polish Museums Association (SMP), talked about the idea of the series of meetings, while Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who was the person inviting to the discussion, presented the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, which was entrusted with the role of co-organising the inauguration of this important undertaking, resulting from the initiative of members of the SMP.

The introduction to the debate of museum professionals was entrusted to Dr. Marcin Napiórkowski from the Institute of Polish Culture. Then, Joanna Mytkowska, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Dr. Anna Czerner, a plenipotentiary for programme affairs and employee of the Research Department, Barbara Gołębiowska. Head of the Education Department at the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek, and Dr. Waldemar Ossowski, Director of the Museum of Gdańsk, talked about their experiences in the field of social engagement of museums. The meeting was hosted by a popular journalist, Dorota Warakomska, who successfully encouraged Facebook users, who observed the event, to participate in the discussion.
