Taking care of the Serbian POWs Monument
Having a long-term conservation in mind, the monument, which dates back to 1917, has been subjected to specialised cleaning and disinfection. Systematic removal of constantly recurring biological build-up is necessary to prevent the degradation of this valuable structure.
The performance of the task will be financed by the Łambinowice Commune. Let us remind you that the monument, made of sandstone, is dedicated to the nearly 300 Serbian soldiers who perished in Lamsdorf during the First World War. The monument was funded by their fellow captives and remains the sole figurine monument in the Old POW Cemetery. It depicts a despair-stricken woman, known as the Niobe of Łambinowice, with a laurel wreath and the so-called Serbian cross.
