St Maximilian Kolbe remembered in Jasienica Dolna

On Sunday, 25 September, in Jasienica Dolna were hold commemorations of the 81st anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. The event, called 'Preserved memories', was attended by Dr. Piotr Stanek who, at the request of the organisers, delivered a lecture.

The commemorations commenced with a Mass for the intention of former prisoners of the Nazi concentration camps. The further part of the event took place at the Village Cultural Centre, where decorations were given and where former prisoners of death camps were remembered.

A lecture by Dr. Piotr Stanek (head of the Research Department), who presented the figure of Father Maximilian Kolbe, especially in the light of the events from 1939, i.e. the priest's arrest by the Germans and his internment in prisoner-of-war camps, including Lamsdorf, met with great interest among the attendees. Those interested in this topic had the opportunity to purchase a book (by the speaker) entitled Maximilian Maria Kolbe (1894–1941) published in 2019 by the Museum.

The event, organised by the Association of War Disabled Persons of the Republic of Poland (from Nysa and the Opole district), the School and Kindergarten in Jasienica Dolna, and the Paris Council in Jasienica Dolna, was also accompanied by artistic performances.
