Sławoj Dubiel's 'Test for Presence'. Exhibition opening!

On Friday afternoon, the first openings within the 12th Opole Photo Festival (OFF) took place. The photographer Slawoj Dubiel, who is perfectly familiar with the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice, winner of many awards and this year's scholarship holder of the 'Marshal's Talents', presented his works depicting relics of Stalag 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf, in the Museum.

The gathered numerous photography enthusiasts were welcomed by the deputy director of the Museum, Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła. She reminded that the author of the works is a member of the Union of Polish Art Photographers, and a founder of the Photographic Workshop Foundation 2.8., one of originators of the Opole Photo Festival, and finally, an artist who has cooperated for years with the CMJW. To encourage to see the exhibition, she pointed out that it is focused on the remains of the former German prisoner-of-war camp from the period of the Second World War - Stalag 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf, which the Museum cares for.

About the efforts of our institution to save the remains of the camp infrastructure, talked also the author of the photographs himself, who emphasised how very much are visible the traces of the former presence of thousands of prisoners-of-war in the place he photographed: Polish, including Warsaw insurgents, and Soviet POWs. He also indicated to the repetition of history, which is reflected precisely in the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. Successive wars resulted in the establishment of camps for soldiers and civilians in the area. The hardship of their captivity is not only visible in contemporary photographs, but also in the artefacts presented in display cabinets and found at the memorial site during conservation work.

The result of Sławoj Dubiel's countless visits to the remembrance site in Łambinowice is the exhibition 'Test for Presence' which can be seen until the end of October 2022 on weekdays at the Museum seat in Opole at 3 Minorytów Street, 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

You are very welcome to see it!
