Report on the meeting with Dr. Dawid Kobiałka

Another "Łambinowice Museum Meetings" was held on Wednesday, 28 June. The subject of it was "Camp archaeology at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. A report on the work in 2022". The question was addressed by Dr. Dawid Kobiałka, an archaeologist and cultural anthropologist, who is in charge of the project "Science for Society, Society for Science at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice".

The researcher delivered a very interesting, and rich in visualisations, lecture in which he presented, among other things, the methods used by modern archaeologists, especially in non-invasive activities, as this is where changes are most spectacular.

Numerous examples of what they look like in practice were provided by last year's work at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. Dawid Kobiałka showed, among other things, a simulation of the camp infrastructure obtained through the synergy of several research methods. Among the questions asked our guest was a dilemma concerning the depth of measurements made with a metal detector, as well as a request to share information on other, similar projects in the area of community archaeology.

The programme of the meeting included the presentation of artefacts - the effects of the first season of archaeological work: identification tags, buttons, coins, as well as, for example, a fragment of a tile from a camp stove, or various types of canteens and soldiers' cups - donated to the Museum as a result of educational activities accompanying the project.
