Remembrance of the Katyń Massacre

Commemorative events to mark the tragic events of the murder of nearly 22 thousand Polish citizens by the NKVD, including Polish Army officers-prisoners of war, which took place 82 years ago, were held in Opole on the Victims of Katyń Massacre Remembrance Day. The ceremony in front of the Monument to the Victims of Katyń Massacre on Haller Street was organised by the "Katyń Family Opole" association. The Museum was represented by its deputy director, Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła.

On this day, the destruction by the Russians on 23 March 2022, in the course of the fighting in Ukraine, of the Cemetery of Victims of Totalitarianism in Kharkiv-Piatichatki, where Polish prisoners-of-war, killed in 1940, are buried, has a special significance.

We, in order to preserve the knowledge and remembrance of the Katyń Massacre, present the Museum's offer of educational classes dedicated to the captivity of representatives of Polish different military formations in the Soviet Union, as well as to the persons who sought and, despite difficulties, spread the truth about their fate. Classes that can be held in both seats of the Museum (in Opole and Łambinowice), combined with paid visits to permanent exhibitions or online (free of charge). The classes may be complemented with a visit to the temporary exhibition On the inhuman land. Polish prisoners-of-war in the USSR, which, in April, is presented in front of the Opole seat of the Museum. Moreover, as 2022 has been established by the Polish Parliament as the Year of Józef Mackiewicz, the April classes will be dedicated to this person. Here is our offer:

  • The Katyn Massacre. History, politics, cultural contexts
  • Józef Mackiewicz – a rebellious columnist. Advocate of the truth about the Katyń crime
  • Three wars and two missions. Józef Czapski – the story of an extraordinary man
  • They defended borders, they lost their homeland. Border Protection Corps and Border Guard officers in captivity (1939-1945)

Classes can be reserved by calling us on: 77 434 34 75 or by e-mail: edukacja@cmjw.pl
