Re-visit of the Romanian Ambassador
Yesterday, January 22, the Ambassador of Romania to Poland, Ovidiu Dranga, and the Military Attaché, Colonel Dragos Florea, visited Łambinowice. The visit was related with the completion of restoration works on the Romanian graves in the Old Prisoner-of-War Cemetery in Łambinowice, which is a special place for the Romanians as it holds the ashes of the largest number of their soldiers in Europe. It was there, in front of the Monument of the Victims of World War I, that the Romanian delegation met with the Head of the Lambinowice Commune, Tomasz Karpiński, as well as the Museum director, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, and the head of the Department of Education and Exhibitions, Dr Anna Wickiewicz.
After laying wreaths and candles, the small group, due to the epidemic situation, went to the Museum in Łambinowice. The subject of the talks was summarisation of the so-far cooperation focused on the restoration works, which was highly praised by everyone.
Moreover, plans for the nearest future were discussed: further care for the state of preservation of the graves, the postponed visit of the Prime Minister of Romania due to the coronavirus, popularization and educational activities, such as online museum lectures about the history of the place and Lamsdorf prisoners-of-war. An important part of the meeting was the screening of a film prepared by the Romanian side about the conservation work (please follow the Museum's Facebook page where we will soon post the documentary). One of the elements of the meeting was also an online conversation with the mayor of Romanian Hațeg about establishing a partnership cooperation with Łambinowice Community.
Ambassador of Romania to Poland, Ovidiu Dranga, ends his diplomatic mission in our country. He assured us that he will be leavening it, taking away in his heart the motion caused by the place and the pleasure of well done duty.
