Professor Joachim Glensk was the protagonist of the ‘Faces of Opole’ – report

Another meeting of the ‘Faces of Opole’ series took place at the Opole seat of the Museum, dedicated to an outstanding man from the city of Opole - Professor Joachim Edward Glensk (1935-2023). The event brought together an audience consisting of the family, friends, colleagues and those interested in the life and achievements of this remarkable man.

Professor Joachim Glensk was an all-rounder - historian, researcher of the Silesian press, author of 38 monographs, the most acclaimed of which was ‘The Black Book of the Polish Press’. His scientific works went far beyond the academic framework. The professor was also a brilliant aphorist,  passionate astrologer and an amateur film maker.

The personal account of Professor Krystyna Kossakowska-Jarosz, who pursued her scientific career under the guidance of the professor, showed the versatility of the figure of Joachim Glensk, whom we also got to know from the perspective of his son, Jeremiusz Glensk, and the guests.

For us - the museum workers - a particularly interesting moment of the meeting was the film ‘Epicedion’ - an etude produced by Prof. Joachim Glensk in 1967 as a documentary about the Museum and the Site of Remembrance.
