Preparations for clean-up works by soldiers at the memorial site

Preparations are underway for the clean-up work that has been regularly conducted for several years during the summer by soldiers of the Bundeswehr and the Polish Army on the post-camp sites and the war cemeteries in Łambinowice. Colonel (Retired) Rainer Grygiel, representing the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V., which is the organizer of the project, has paid a working visited to the museum to discuss the details.

The essence of this interesting initiative is that soldiers volunteer their time to works with the aim of taking care of the historical site that our Museum looks after on a daily basis. In this way, we reconcile the goals of civic education (here: for the uniformed services) with very specific, urgent needs arising from concern for the state of preservation of the memorial site.

During the visit, there were discussed the scope and progress of the work planned for August this year. In doing so, a number of organizational issues were agreed on, including accommodation and food arrangements for soldiers and proposals for leisure time.
