POW'S (and not only) matters in Poland

From time to time, valuable initiatives spring in our country aimed at researching and commemorating the fate of the victims of the Second World War, including prisoners-of-war.

Without any doubt, such affairs also include the ceremonial unveiling of a cross and a monument in Czarnem, on the site the former Stalag 315 Hammerstein. The event of 19 June, with the support of the "With an Open Heart" Association and the "Museum of Prisoner-of-War Camps in Czarnem" portal, was organized by the Czarnobór Forest Inspectorate which have announced that in the future a historical and educational path would also be created there.

Also, the Lower Silesian Historical Society, which since 2019 has been carrying out a research project, under the honorary patronage of our Museum, what aim is to establish the places of work and death of prisoners and POWs in the area of Sieniawka, has intensified its work and will soon present its results.

We will keep you informed about the progress of the works, especially that we are preparing for the next edition of a conference on POW sites of remembrance, which we are planning to organize in November 2021.

Besides that, we are happy with the successes of the team of Dr. David Kobiałka, a friend of us and archaeologist who cooperates with our Museum. Also in June, in Chojnice, the first stage of exhumation works and archaeological research on a so far unrevealed  grave of the victims of a killing by Gestapo, has been initiated. Results of the works might be a decisive step in researches on the Nazi Germany crimes.

We are also pleased with the success of the team of Dr. Dawid Kobiałka, an archaeologist who is a friend and collaborator of our Museum. Also in June, in Chojnice, work began on the first stage of exhumation and archaeological research of a previously undisclosed grave of the victims of the murder of Gestapo prisoners. The result of the work, thanks to the use of modern scientific apparatus, may become a breakthrough in research into the crimes of Nazi Germany.
