Poetry at the "Łambinowice Museum Meetings"
A few days ago, another, a third collection of poems was published in print – Ocalone. Antologia wierszy przeciw wojnie [Preserved. Anthology of poems against war]. It was published by the Museum with the intention to warn against results of armed conflicts and totalitarianisms. It is different that its predecessors by the fact that from a pool of thirty-three authors, only a few have personally experienced wartime violence. It is a sign of the end of an era of witnesses to history.
However, we are not completely defenceless against the passage of time. Tomasz Różycki, a poet and essayist, who received a difficult task of choosing the works, writes about it on the book cover: "Poems will not undo suffering or stop cruelty. They will not save anyone from death. They can, however, to ensure that victims and heroes will not stay nameless. They might carry their names through time, and save them from nothingness". The poetry book Preserved thus operates in the space of imagination, tender empathy and ascetic sensitiveness. As befits poetry.
The atmosphere created by the word resonates with Sławoj Dubiel's photographs, documenting the traces of Łambinowice's camp past. All of that bring in intimacy – a seldom-used, opened spine of the book, bound only with a black thread, harmonizes with the ascetic cover and sublime paper. Well-thought-out details encourage the reader to pick up the poetry book more often, and make it a faithful friend of moments taken away from the mundane of everyday life.
