The 3rd nationwide academic conference Sites after German prisoners-of-war camps in Poland. Forgotten or Discovered?  will commence on Monday, November 15, at 9 a.m. The online event will be possible to be seen via Facebook. The Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War is the organizer of the event.

The speakers, among which will be representatives of museums, guardians of memorial sites, academics, and history enthusiasts associated with non-governmental organisations or speaking on their own, will present the current state of knowledge about the history of German prisoner-of-war camps from the Second World War, and also analyse the remembrances of post-camp sites.

The conference will be opened by the director of our Museum, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who will talk about the experiences and challenges faced with conservation of Stalagu 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf. Subsequent lectures will be given on Stalags A Görlitz, XX B Marienburg, XXI B Thure, 319 Cholm, Oflag II D Gross Born, and working parties of the POW camp complexes in Bialystok and Hammerstein, and working parties of Lamsdorf Stalags which were employed on the territory of present-day Sosnowiec. The final speeches will be on propositions of creating networks, which would bring together various entities (i.e. institutions, administration units and organisations), popularize the knowledge about POW camps from the Second World War and support the care for the places after them.
