New products in the Museum shop
The Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War has been recently working intensively, with the support of specialists, on its image, pursuing bold and, at the same time justified decisions in this regard. Will they also prove correct in the eye of the public?
The opportunity to find out about this is the dissemination of chosen ideas... in the form of museum souvenirs. Museum shops offer seemingly ordinary item to buy with a specific, useful or purely decorative purpose. Nevertheless, their main role is different: they are to be discreet carriers of values and ideas presented by the given institution. I other words, if the assortment is well thought out, then the purchase of a small souvenir will be a successful complement to a museum visit. At the same time, some shops are true sanctuaries of aesthetically exquisite consumption - suffice it to mention those of London's Victoria and Albert Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna or Poland's MOCAK.
Until now, the CMJW's promotional activities have involved the design and distribution of advertising products in a fairy limited extent. Now it will change – the Museum, to meet the demands of still growing number of sympathizers, has prepared a range of interesting in its form and functionality, items that are not just 'one-off' advertising gadgets, but combine their good design with a timeless message.
The bags, rucksacks, T-shirts, postcards, pencils and pens (more items are planned) bear slogans taken from prisoners-of-war accounts and letters - intriguing and even, in spite of everything that is wrong, featuring a note of optimism. Maintained in the colours typical of the CMJW, they correspond with other elements of the institution's visual identity and its style of communication.
