National Day of Remembrance...

Today, 14 June, is observed the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of German Nazi Concentration Camps and Death Camps. This date is connected to an event which took place 81 years ago, when the German authorities sent 728 people (from the prison in Tarnów) to the newly established Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz.

Few people know that transports to the German concentration camp were directed almost from the whole Europe, also from Lamsdorf from where, in October 1941, around 6,5 thousands Soviet prisoners-of-war were sent to Auschwitz and Gross-Rosen.

Today, we would also like to remind that Polish inmates of the concentrations camp, like Father Maximilian Kolbe and Captain Witold Pilecki, also had prisoner-of-war moments in their war biographies. We have been talking about this for years, for example, carrying into effect the educational project "Lamsdorf-Auschwitz. Auschwitz-Lamsdorf".
