Museum’s project is co-financed by Programme “Niepodległa”

Among the co-financed projects from the Multiannual Government Programme "Niepodległa" for 2022 is: “Freedom is in them. Warsaw Insurgents 1944-2022”. The Museum received over PLN 140 thousand for its implementation.

The project concerns the fate of Warsaw insurgents held in German prisoner-of-war camps. It has a popularising, educational and commemorative character. Its implementation, between May and October 2022, envisages activities diversified in terms of form. One of them is a mobile, expanded version of the temporary exhibition The End and the Beginning. Warsaw insurgents in German captivity, supplemented by a catalogue and didactic materials suitable for classes and workshops. In addition, as part of the project, a competition, an educational programme and artistic activities will be organised.

The project will also result in a nationwide academic conference on German prisoner-of-war camps and two publications: on Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki authored by Dr. Piotr Stanek of the Research Department, and on children and parents, dedicated to Barbara Lewandowska, a Warsaw insurgent and a prisoner-of-war in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, prepared by Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska.

We will keep you informed of the progress of the work.
