Mieczysław Chorąży has died
Mieczysław Chorąży, the doyen of Polish oncology, Warsaw insurgent, prisoner-of-war, social activist and teacher, died on Saturday, February 20th, at the age of 95. His accounts from the period of occupation, insurgent fights in Warsaw, and, first of all, captivity, mainly in Stalag XI A Altengrabow, were recorded and preserved in the collection of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War.
The professor was born on 31 August 1925 in Janówka. During the Second World War he was an underground soldier of the Home Army, at that time he also graduated from the Officer Cadet School. After his return from captivity, in 1945, he started studies at the Medical Department of the University of Warsaw. This was the beginning of his impressive academic career, the roots of which lie in his wartime experiences.
On the passing of his, we offer our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
