Last week, on 12 July, at the Łambinowice seat of the Museum, was hosted a meeting of the Council for Protection of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice– representatives of institutions and communities whose competences and prerogatives are crucial in maintaining the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice in the best possible state of preservation.

The annual meeting was held to summarise the undertakings implemented in the period since the last assembly, i.e. June 2022, and to discuss the needs and outline the plans related to the care of the memorial site.

The participants of the meeting were welcomed by the Director of the Museum, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who also officially introduced a new member to the Council - Daniel Podobiński, a representative of the Niemodlin Forest Partnership. Then, together with Elżbieta Góra from the Department of Conservation and Collections, she discussed the restoration works on the grave crosses in the Old POW Cemetery in Łambinowice and clean-up efforts on the site of Stalag 316/VIII B (344) Lamsdorf. In addition, she pointed out the most urgent needs, which the Council then discussed, also in financial context: the need to conserve the sculptures on the Monument to the Martyrdom of Prisoners-of-War, preparing of construction documentation as a basis for revitalising the surroundings of this monument, and the conservation of the monuments at the Old POW Cemetery. Jerzy Rosiński, representing the Commune of Łambinowice, presented the main points of the spatial development plan currently being worked on.

The meeting ended with a tour around the grounds of Stalag VIII B (344) Lamsdorf and a visit to the Old POW Cemetery. Everywhere, the Council was accompanied by Dr. Dawid Kobiałka, head of the team of the 'Science for Society, Society for Science at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice' project, who explained the archaeological work carried out there.
