Maksymilian Maria Kolbe was born 129 years ago

Father Maksymilian Maria Kolbe, before he died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, was detained in 1939, with a small group of his fellow friars, in several prisoners-of-war camps, including Dulag VIII B Lamsdorf. On the anniversary of the birth of the martyr and saint of the Catholic Church, we would like to encourage you to remind yourself his life story, including the lesser-known facts, especially connected with his POW episode.

To this end, it is worth familiarizing with the online lecture we prepared and published for the first time in March 2020 during the pandemic. In it, Dr. Piotr Stanek, Head of the Research Department, presents facts on Fr. Maksimilian Kolbe related with his childhood and adolescence, his monastic life, his publishing and missionary activities, and his wartime fate in captivity, including in Dulag B Lamsdorf (in today's Łambinowice in Opole Silesia), and his martyrdom. Also, on the war period is focused the book "Maksymilian Maria Kolbe (1894–1941)” (2019) by Dr. Piotr Stanek. It can be purchased in our online shop – HERE.
