Lecture at church in Łambinowice

Answering the invitation of the parish priest, Father Adam Ciosmak from St. Mary Magdalen church in Łambinowice, Dr. Piotr Stanek, Head of the Research Department of the Museum, delivered today, in the church, a lecture about Father Józef Hołubowicz (1835-1887). It was another event, after the November edition of the ,,Łambinowice Museum Meetings", dedicated to the Jesuit, who exercised pastoral care of the French soldiers in the first prisoner-of-war camp in Lamsdorf.

The historian presented many interesting facts from Frather Hołubowicz's life, which were established in the course of long researches, among others, in the private archive of the Jesuit. The audience listened to the information about his adolescence and theological studies (e.g. in France and Austria), extensive didactic, missionary, publishing and artistic activities (he also wrote stage plays). An interesting aspect of his life was that he served as the camp chaplain to the French prisoners of war in 1871 and was remembered by his French contemporaries.

All of you who are interested in this exceptional figure, are referred to an article published in the sixth volume of Sketches from the History of Lamsdorf/Łambinowice Camps. History and the Present Day, which can be purchased in our Museum bookshop: here
