"Łambinowice Museum Meeting" – the first in year 2024

After the New Year break, we are coming back to the organisation of the series of meetings dedicated mainly to the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice, and all the matters which are related to its history and present day issues. The first "Łambinowice Museum Meeting" event will take place on 6 March.

The subject to be discussed by the Museum workers, Dr. Anna Wickiewicz and Dr. Piotr Stanek, is the approaching anniversary of the liberation of the Lamsdorf camp and the events that preceded that moment, i.e. on the days of 17 and 18 of March 1945. These happenings occurred between 22 January, when the forced evacuation of the prisoners-of-war began, and the Red Army entered the Stalag. Hence the telling title of the meeting: From evacuation to liberation - the last weeks in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf.

Those of us who come to the meeting will find out, among other things, what were the circumstances of the start and course of the evacuation, but also how the first moments of freedom looked liked for those who had lived to see it. The interesting story will be accompanied by film material, as will show footage of the camp captured by a Soviet camera in the spring 1945, and a quite modern fragment of The Long March to Freedom, a documentary series by Stephen Saunders.

We invite you to join us on 6 March (Wednesday) at 5 p.m.!
