Invitation to educational session

This year's session, ‘If not memory, then what? Education at places of national remembrance’, organised by the Museum for the twentieth time, is subtitled ‘Patriotism - an updated version’. From Sienkiewicz to Komasa, Peszek, Twardoch’ and is aimed at teachers and people involved in education. Please note: not only historians, but all who have a bent for teaching and wish to use the discipline of history for reflection on the present.

The event will take place on 30 May in Opole, in the conference room of the Municipal Public Library, which is located right next to the Museum, at 4 Minorytów Street. On this occasion, because of this proximity, we encourage you to visit our exhibitions. There are no organisational obstacles to do this, as the session will last from 9 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., followed by refreshments and, at 1.30 p.m., the final of the 17th edition of the National Competition for the Historical Project ‘Before It's Not too Late’. Participation in the final is optional for the session's attendees, but we deeply encouraged you to attend it as well, as the presentations of the winning projects might be an excellent source of inspiration for teachers.

During the session, we will reflect primarily on the direction of education to mature patriotism - formal and otherwise, and how it is influenced by the current sociopolitical situation, including the war in Ukraine. We will examine how the image of patriotism is shaped by the contemporary school and focus on several key areas of culture: film, music, digital technologies, fashion and design.

The event's partner is the Silesian Institute in Opole, which is involved in the co-organisation of the Oxford debating competition for young people. In addition, the Opole Voivodeship Superintendent of Education, Joanna Raźniewska, will actively participate in the session as one of the speakers.

Below, you will find the programme of the session and a registration form here. Your attendance in the session is free of charge.

You are very welcome to join us!
