International Day For Monuments and Sites

As each year on 18 April, we remember in a special way about everyone who are involved in protection and conservation of monuments. It is a tribute to, among others, conservators and art historians, architects, archaeologists, but also to individuals and institutions who take care of monuments - whether by virtue of ownership or in connection with their function as managers of a given object.

Due to the fact that the Museum is a custodian of historical sites under state protection as the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice, we have received an invitation to the provincial commemorations of this important festival, organised by the Opole Province Conservator of Monuments, the Foundation of the Ducal Castle of Niemodlin 1313, and the Opole Branch of the National Heritage Institute. It is an incentive to spend the upcoming April weekend (22-23.04) in the surrounding of art and culture in the Ducal Castle of Niemodlin. The programme of the International Day for Monuments and Sites includes lectures, shows, competitions and concerts. Among them, one speech in particular caught our attention - a lecture by Grzegorz Molenda entitled "From a finding to an artefact. The significance of accidental discoveries in archaeology".
