Inauguration of a series of debates the "Museums of tomorrow"

On behalf of the President of the Association, Dr. Michał Niezabitowski, and the Director of the Museum, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wsielewska, we are pleased to invite you to the debate Can a museum not be involved? The social responsibility of museums, which will take place online at https://www.facebook.com/events/1197234834122315/.

Our meeting will inaugurate a series of debates entitled "Museums of tomorrow", which has been initiated by the Association as a reply to the "Museum professionals talk" initiative, stemming from the need to exchange information and experiences connected with the dynamically changing pandemic situation in 2020 and 2021 and the necessity for museums to find themselves in it.

The debate Can a museum not be involved? The social responsibility of museums is intended to provide answers to some crucial questions faced by our institutions: should museums document the current reality which seems to be important or is it better to keep a temporal distance? Should museums be socially responsible, and if so, what does that mean for them? Can and should a museum speak out on matters of current importance? Finally, what obligations do museums have to society in this context?

Answers to the above questions will be sought by Dr. Anna Czerner – a plenipotentiary for programme affairs and employee of the Research Department of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, Joanna Mytkowska – Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Dr. Marcin Napiórkowski from the Institute of Polish Culture, Dr. Waldemar Ossowski – Director of the Museum of Gdańsk, Olga Ślifirska – Head of the Department of Local Programmes at the Józef Piłsudski Museum in Sulejówek. The entire event will be hosted by a popular journalist, Dorota Warakomska.

By publishing the letter of the President of the Association, Dr. Michał Niezabitowski, and the invitation, we warmly welcome you to take part in our joint venture!
