Henryk Kosidło has passed away

We have received sad news which stopped the festive mood of the Easter holidays. On Sunday died Henryk Kosidło, Chairman of the Opole Province Veterans' Council. He will be rememberd by posterity as the last Opole veteran of the Battle of Lenino, and for us, workers of the CMJW, above all as the man you could count on in organizing events commemorating the victims of the Second World War.

Henryk Kosidło (born 9.06.1925) as a 15-year-old boy, together with his family, was deported to Kazakhstan, after his father (policeman) was taken prisoner by the NKVD (he was a victim of the Katyń Massacre). In 1943, in Sielce upon the Oka River, he took the military oath and joined the 1st Battery of the 5th Heavy Artillery Brigade. He followed the combat route with it starting from the aforementioned Lenino to the Elbe. After the war, Henryk Kosidło settled in Opole, working in public administration for many years. No less significant was his activity in veterans' circles. For his activities, he was give an Honorary Citizenship of the Opole Voivodship three years ago.

He will remain in our memory as a very active, reliable, faithful to the principles he set for himself, and responsible man.
