"From evacuation to liberation..."- report on the meeting

It is time for a brief summery of this year's first "Łambinowice Museum Meeting". It was devoted to the events that occurred towards the close of World War Two, and their culmination was the liberation of the Lamsdorf prisoners-of-war.

The clear title of the meeting, From evacuation to liberation - the last weeks in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, left no doubt as to what the audience could expect. There was a surprise in store in the form of a documentary film made by the Red Army soldiers who entered Stalag 344 Lamsdorf. The documentary presented us with the appearance of the camp, the securing of proofs of the crime and providing assistance to sick prisoners.

Moreover, those who attended the meeting saw fragments of The Long March to Freedom, a series about fates of the forcedly evacuated British prisoners-of-war. Both pictures enriched a lecture on the evacuation the prisoners and the course of the fights proceeding the liberation of the Stalag. The meeting was prepared by Dr. Piotr Stanek, head of the Research Department, Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Museum, and Dr. Anna Wickiewicz, head of the Department of Education and Exhibitions.

We are happy that the meeting, despite its difficult subject, met with a good respond. Thank you for your active participation and see you next time!
