Film premier of A casket from the Oflag
Today, on the last Monday of January, via museum’s channel on YouTube and Facebook, will take place the film premier of the first episode of our movie series …but that’s a different story now.
Documentary A casket from the Oflag lasts just four minutes. In such a short time, with interesting photos and commentary, carefully selected music, we tell the story of the vicissitudes of Lieutenant Andrzej Mystkowski and his beloved wife Krystyna. In 1943, she received from his husband in captivity, the mentioned casket as a name day gift, and, throughout the whole war, she kept up frequent interchange of letters. Both the casket and the correspondence are now in the Museum. Thus, the film is also about remembrance. It is the remembrance of the son, Jan Mystkowski, about the wartime vicissitudes of his parents as well as our activities that aim to preserve it (such as publishing the correspondence in a book).
The series of short films ...but that’s a different story now is of a documentary nature. It features photos, statements by relatives of POWs, current and already retired employees of the CMJW, and other people who contributed to turning POW memorabilia into museum pieces. The series was prepared by us at the end of 2020, thanks to the programme "Culture Available", and therefore subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The idea, according to the concept of Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, was realized by Sławomir Mielnik.
We are welcome to watch it! The second part of the series is another unusual story, related to the prisoners-of-war subject and our work. It will be presented in February, also on the last Monday of the month.
