Exhibition of works by Zygmunt Moryto

On Friday, 17 February, at the Contemporary Art Gallery will take place an opening of the exhibition of Zygmunt Moryto's works Trzech to już tłum [Three people make already a crowd]. He was an artist whose a long-standing relationship with our Museum is very much visible in his works. The exhibition features also objects from the collections of our Museum.

Zygmunt Moryto (1954-2021) was associated with the city of Opole since 1980. It was there where he practised workshop and applied graphic as well as painting and drawing. He presented his works at numerous individual and collective exhibitions at home and abroad.

He was associated with our Museum by his interest in the history of Second World War, by the figure of his father, Mieczysław Moryto, a long-standing member of the Museum Council, and by his personal friendship. He stated this by creating a triptych whose central idea was Polish Army soldiers who participated in fighting of 1939 – the only stained-glass window in his artistic output which for years decorated the entrance door to the Museum seat in Opole, a series of graphics dedicated to the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice, as well as, a very reflective painting, prepared especially for the exhibition organized by us in Opole – "Freedom and Captivity".

The exhibition, which you can visit until 16 April, will display the works from different periods of the artist's activity. It will also feature his chosen biography episodes and inspirations for his work. Also, during the opening will take place the premier of a documentary on the artist directed by Andrzek Levy Lewczak.
