Exhibition about animals in the army. Not only for children

Mascot Animals in the Polish Armed Forces in the Years 1918-1945, the exposition prepared by the Army Museum in Białystok and the London-based Polish Institute and Sikorski Museums, is an offer that will be of interest to visitors of any age. It is available to be seen at the seat of the Museum in Opole to the end of this August.

The exhibition enjoyed great interest during the 14th Night of Museums in Opole (report) – when it was presented to our guests for the first time. The aim of the exhibition is to remind that animals, which have accompanied man for centuries, also helped soldiers during armed conflicts. Sometimes they even received medals and state decorations as a token of gratitude.

We will learn the stories of some of them, like those that served on the first line, as well as those that boosted the morale of soldiers behind it. Without any doubt the best known animal-soldier was Corporal Wojtek (a Syrian bear) – one of the exhibition's heroes.

You are welcome to visit the exhibition from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m – 5 p.m. Admission is free.
