European Heritage Days at the CMJW. Invitation

This year’s theme of the European Heritage Days is "Living Heritage - Traditions from Generations". The Museum’s proposal for this occasion is a lecture brining closer to our attention ways of cultivating of various national traditions, customs, practices and rituals in the harsh realities of the camp life.

The event is part of the "Łambinowice Museum Meetings" series, and its topic is "Rugby, pétanque, tiramisù: the thing about cultivation of tradition in captivity". Museum workers Regina Chojna, from the Archives, and Anna Wickiewicz, who heads the Department of Education and Exhibitions, will tell us about particular for prisoners from different cultural backgrounds, sports games, culinary customs, tastes in music, or festive customs.

It is worth noting that this year's EHD shared theme refers to the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), whose main goal is not only to preserve this heritage, but also to create a social space that is conducive to tolerance and understanding. These are attributes that undoubtedly were helpful to the POW community as a numerous group of people made up of men from different countries, armies, nations and denominations.

The start of the meeting is: at 6 p.m., as usual, at the Museum seat in Łambinowice, on 6 September.
