Congress on Prisoners-of-War Memorial Sites - invitation

An event, we have been planning and waiting for so long, as part of the development of a strategy for the preservation of POWs remembrance and its dissemination, is about to happen. The ‘Congress on Prisoners-of-War Memorial Sites: Heritage and Strategies for the Future’ will be held in a hybrid format on 15 November 2024, in Warsaw, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Alongside the Museum, which also acts here as the leader of the ‘League of POW Remembrance’ Network, another co-organiser is the Centre for Research on the Economics of Memorial Sites at SWPS University.

The conference is designed to encourage networking, i.e. to initiate and strengthen cooperation among custodians of POW memorial sites, stakeholders and external institutions who, for various reasons, are interested in protecting and promoting the sites of former POW camps. We have prepered the programme in such a way as to cover as comprehensively as possible most of the issues that can constitute a platform for such cooperation.

In addition to the members of the ‘League of POW Remembrance’ Network, there will be speaking experts dealing with such issues as: museum management, innovative technological solutions, humanitarian law, military issues or cooperation with local authorities. Five thematic panels will be followed by a panel and plenary discussion. Our Museum will be actively represented at the Congress by Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Dr. Renata Kobylarz-Buła and Dr. Piotr Stanek, as well as by a group of museum workers as audience members.

We encourage you to attend the meeting at the university premises or online! Register for the congress here: https://swps.pl/my-uniwersytet/aktualnosci/konferencje-i-seminaria/35998-kongres-miejsc-pamieci-jenieckiej-dziedzictwo-i-strategie-dla-przyszlosci.
