Conference with members of the 'Science for Society...' project

A two-days conference 'Archaeology in the face of material traces of present-day' organised by the Archaeological Commission and Branch of The Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań, ended yesterday. It was attended by some members, among them were representative of the Museum, of the research team of 'Science for society, society for science at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice' research project.

On the second day of the Poznań conference, Dr. Anna Czerner (Research Department) delivered a lecture entitled 'Not so ordinary forest. The Educational Potential of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice', and Elżbieta Góra, MA, (Department of Collections and Conservation) gave a talk on 'Barbarian in the garden? Explorers at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice'. Other researches of the Museum's project "Science for society, society for science at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice" were also active during the conference: Professor Michał Pawleta of the Adam Mickiewicz University (UAM), Dr. Dawid Kobiałka, Kamil Karski, MA, and Daniel Nita.

The talks at the Poznań conference provided an opportunity to present the latest results of the project's works, an important part of our projects, but not the only one conducted in the last month. This is because October saw a lecture on field work and field inventories of the state of preservation of the physical remains of the Lamsdorf camps. The subject of the documentation were the relics of Stalag VIII B (344), which in their rudimentary form have survived in the local landscape up to this day. At the same time, further aerial photographs were taken in order to record, among other things, distinctive features of vegetation that could indicate traces of the past in the ground, and ethnographic research was carried out. Another round of surface investigations with metal detectors was also carried out, in which the Historical and Exploration Association Triskelion participated. More than 50 artefacts were secured during the prospecting.
