Concert Prayer of Peace on the 83rd anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War

Yesterday, on 1 September, at 6 p.m., at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Łambinowice, we organised a Prayer of Peace concert. It was performed by the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Przemysław Neumann together with the Opole poets. This remarkable event was preceded by laying flowers and lighting candles at the Monument to the Martyrdom of Prisoners of War at 11.00 am.

The concert met with great interest. As in the first edition, on September 1, 2019, the attendees were welcomed by the host, the parish priest of Łambinowice, Father Adam Ciosmak. Msgr Paweł Stobrawa, Auxiliary Bishop, senior bishop of the Diocese of Opole, introduced, while Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Museum, presented the idea behind the event.

Then, for over an hour, the church resounded with music and poetry. Works by Samuel Barbra, Johann Sebastian Bach, Tomaso Albinoni and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki were performed by the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Przemysław Neumann. Alternating with them, poems were presented by the following poets: Adriana Jarosz (A Reverie), Edmund Borzemski (The Bell of Silence), Harry Duda (Katyn Prayer), Jerzy Stasiewicz (un untitled poem), Małgorzata Bobak Końcowa (Reflection), Elżbieta Lisak-Duda (Between), Danuta Babicz-Lewandowska (Dream), Ewa Maj-Szczygielska (In the Camp Forest) and Walter Pyka (Three Words).

Among the guests were Zuzanna Donath-Kasiura, Deputy Marshal of the Opole Voivodeship, who represented the Museum Organiser, Tomasz Karpiński, Mayor of the Łambinowice Commune, and Rafał Adamiszyn, Director of the Opole Branch of the Gas Company, who provided financial support for the Museum's activities.

We would like to remind you that the organisation of the concert was supported by the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Mary Magdalene and the Józef Elsner Philharmonic Orchestra in Opole, and enjoyed the honorary patronage of Andrzej Czaja, Bishop of Opole Diocese, and media patronage by TVP3 Opole, Radio Opole, Radio Doxa, "Nowa Trybuna Opolska" and "Nowiny Nyskie".

Many thanks for attending the concert!
