Collaboration of the Museum with the Polish Border Guard
As a result of an agreement with the Superintendent Józef Bocheński Silesian Border Guard Regional Unit in Racibórz, from 7 to 24 April 2025, our Museum is having a series of educational meetings for employees of all stations and posts of the Unit.
The initiative for the collaboration came from Ensign Martyna Załęska, Plenipotentiary of the Commander of the Silesian Border Guard Regional Unit for the Protection of Human Rights, Equal Treatment and Professional Ethics. The idea was welcomed by the Museum, as it fits well with the mission of our institution. A two-hours lecture, prepared by Dr. Piotr Stanek and Dr. Anna Czerner, entitled “Violence and its consequences: a historical and social perspective”, not only covers the most drastic realities of life experienced at the Second World War prisoner-of-war camps, but also carries a warning about the recurrence of social mechanisms leading to an escalation of violence and, as a result, to war crimes. Hence, the speakers chose to address issues related to the armed conflicts that also occurred after 1945.
The first lecture was given at the headquarters of the Silesian Border Guard Regional Unit. It was initially piloted in Racibórz, so the authors of the educational material came there together, while follow-up lectures are already being carried out on a one-person basis. Dr. Anna Czerner was in Bielsko-Biała and Ruda Śląska, while Dr. Piotr Stanek met with border guards in Sosnowiec and Katowice-Pyrzowice. There are two more meetings ahead of us: in Opole and Częstochowa.
From our perspective, as we believe, the initiative should be regarded as a success, as we are received with favour and interest by the Border Guard commanders, and attention and openness by audiences.
